The predecessor was the Southern Rubber Board, in April 1975 it was transformed into the General Department of Rubber under the Provisional Revolutionary Government of South Vietnam.
July 1977 transformed into Vietnam Rubber Corporation under the Ministry of Agriculture
Implement the cooperation program to plant 50,000 hectares of new rubber with the Soviet Union according to the decree signed by the two governments.
In March 1980, it was transformed into the General Department of Rubber under the Council of Ministers with two functions: State management of rubber and organization of rubber production.
Implement the policy of the Council of Ministers on developing rubber trees in the Central Highlands provinces according to the model of "Mother hen laying chicks".
In 1989, it was transformed into the General Rubber Corporation under the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry.
In 1995, it was a special-class State Corporation according to Decision 91/TTg.
Started planting rubber in Lao PDR according to the agreement signed between the two governments of Vietnam and Laos.
The Government decided to establish the Vietnam Rubber Industry Group.
Started planting rubber in the Kingdom of Cambodia according to the agreement signed between the two governments of Vietnam and Cambodia
Rubber trees were planted in the northern mountainous provinces, first in Son La, then further developed in Lai Chau, Dien Bien, Yen Bai, and Ha Giang.
Converted into a State-owned LLC
On December 26, 2017, the Prime Minister approved the equitization plan of Vietnam Rubber Industry Group.
On May 22, 2018, the first General Meeting of Shareholders was held and the company operated under the Joint Stock Company model from June 1, 2018.
The rubber area is mainly in the Southeast region, in 1975, it took over about 78,000 hectares of rubber, with an output of more than 22,000 tons. Planted nearly 90,000 hectares of new rubber, increasing the rubber area to 150,000 hectares, with an output of over 50,000 tons, including 09 rubber companies.
Formed industrial units, internal services such as land reclamation, construction, consulting, life, rubber industry, etc. In 1982, it began planning to expand the area in the Central Highlands and in 1984, 05 rubber companies were formed in the Central Highlands
Mainly developing rubber acreage in the Southeast and Central Highlands, with a total newly planted area of over 100,000 hectares, increasing the total area of the Group to over 250,000 hectares, output of approximately 200,000 tons, increasing the number of rubber companies to 20 units.
Started the program of developing rubber abroad and in areas outside the traditional domestic area. Planted nearly 110,000 hectares abroad, more than 50,000 in the country, increasing the area to nearly 400,000 hectares with an output of over 450,000 tons, managed by 66 rubber companies.
Developing industries to increase value in the rubber value chain including processing rubber wood, MDF wood, gloves, pillows, rubber conveyor belts, industrial parks… with more than 40 enterprises, accounting for more than 40% of the Group’s total revenue.
